Miss Popelar shared examples from past 5th graders. They discussed why the strong examples were successful at as well as how some of the examples could of been stronger. Look through the slideshow below to see the entire class period and some finished examples of their work!

It is great fun to see your graphic novels illustrating Rusalka. After seeing the opera at the theater, it makes me appreciate your illustrations even more.

Thank you! I really enjoyed making a graphic novel and was really proud of me and my partners work afterwards.

When illustrating our graphic novels we had a time limit at different parts. We completed illustrating a page or two and then we worked on another chunk of the graphic novel. The whole thing wasn't just pictures. We had to write words along with it, too. I think that making a graphic novel of our own to represent the opera was a great idea and I wonder if any other schools will do anything like that.

The graphic novel was my favorite part of the whole unit because it includes art. Art is my hobby. My partner was Aubrey and we work good together. We bounce ideas off of each other and we get a lot done.

I love to see how this class is learning about an opera that was made in the early 1900's. Opera is a show that was before tv. Rusalka is a great Opera, it was so beautiful and the pictures everyone drew were so great.

It amazes me how much talent 5th graders have while drawing graphic novels!
