5th grade began working on their own operas. Following a worksheet provided by the teacher, small groups planned storylines for operas of their own design. Today these groups continued on recording their story and today they would take that worked and add on to working with libretto and music. Before splitting the class up they went over what needed to accomplish over the next coming weeks with both the classroom and music teacher. Ultimately they had to complete a beginning and end chorus, an aria, and a duet. Those who were scheduled to stay behind and work on the plot/lyrics stayed in the classroom to work as a group on the task. They did this while the other half of class followed the music teacher to start composing. Over the following weeks each class of students worked incredibly hard both during scheduled time and during personal time. The spent hours working on the storyline, libretto, and music. Being very detailed about settings, characters, etc. They worked hard in the music room to compose melodies that worked perfectly with the lyrics.
